Immerse yourself in a world where sight is not assumed.
Telling the story of a mother and boy, of a storm and a sunrise, of love, protection and letting go; Half Light invites you to awaken your senses and tune in to a reality where movement is revealed by sound.
Part biographical, part fiction, Half Light draws upon Holly Thomas’ lived experience of visual impairment and parenting to unmask a multi-generational story about the courage it takes to send your child into a world that may not always understand.
Designed to be experienced without the need for separate Audio Description, Half Light is performed in the softly lit round, merging dance and storytelling with immersive sound design.

“Half Light combines a delicacy of means with deeply considered underlying principles. A dance piece, a sound piece, a piece of narrative performance – and an inclusive audience experience which feels almost healing”. Phil Owen, Producer, Arnolfini

Image descriptions left to right. All photos by Vonalina Cake
Top Left: Four performers wearing soft pastel tones walk purposefully towards the camera in unison, each with one arm extended in front of them, portable bluetooth speakers in the palm of their hands.
Bottom Left: Three performers hold portable bluetooth speakers in the palms of their hands, their arms bent at the elbow, speakers raised just above their head.
Right: Three dancers, eyes closed, wearing pastel colours. They crouch in a line, sideways on. The 2nd and 3rd dancers lay a hand on the dancer in front of them, sensing each other through touch.
